This sageo (sword knot) is meticulously crafted by an author with 15 years of Iaido experience, using Sanada-himo.
This product uses a durable cotton fukuro-himo (bag weave) Sanada-himo from Orizume Sumiya, a long-established workshop in Kanazawa, and each one is finished into a sageo by hand.
Sanada-himo is a cord woven with warp and weft threads, and its characteristics of being resistant to friction and pulling have been utilized since ancient times for the cords of boxes that store tea ceremony utensils and for the sageo of swords. It is also characterized by developing a unique texture with use.
The length is 240 cm, which is common for the sageo of Japanese swords and Iai swords, and the width is 1.2 cm.
Since it is a high-quality Sanada-himo, you can cut it to your desired length and use it as an obi-jime or for handmade materials, and some people use it as a blood stopper for portable shrines.
It can be easily threaded through most kurigata (pommel knobs) without snagging. Due to the manufacturing process, there may be slight variations in length.
*For tanto (short swords) and wakizashi (short swords), the length can be shortened. Please let us know in the comment section if you wish.
