Tsugaru Lacquerware (Tsugaru Nuri) is a durable and beautiful traditional lacquerware with over 300 years of history, primarily centered in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture. It is characterized by the Togi-dashi Kawari-nuri technique, where lacquer is applied dozens of times and then polished. The four representative techniques are Karat Nuri, Nanako Nuri, Nishiki Nuri, and Monsha Nuri. Made through over 50 processes, it is also known as Baka Nuri (foolish lacquerware) for its practicality, being strong and long-lasting.
