Soba Kiri Knife - Made by a Plane Blacksmith

99.00 $
Description
The maker's mark Haizan belongs to Mr. Toshichi Ishibashi, a plane blacksmith from Niigata Prefecture.
I purchased this directly from him about 15 years ago at a Niigata product exhibition.
This is a knife with a handmade feel from the blacksmith.
The blade has been sharpened to a keen edge. Please confirm with the photos before purchasing.

I checked the straightness of the blade edge (9th photo). There is a slight gap between the cutting edge and the heel, creating a slight upward curve in the middle. The gap is not large enough to fit a postcard.
I checked the undulation of the blade's back (10th photo). It has a curved indentation. The size of the gap is about the width of a postcard.
The wooden ruler used for checking is a shimokatajōgi (bottom edge ruler), used for inspecting plane soles.
