Each plant is counted as one with a pair of leaves.

This is a different species from the native duckweed.
It was named because its leaves resemble those of the Japanese pepper plant (sansho).

This is a small fern distributed throughout East Asia.
Its propagation speed is quite fast, so it can be kept exceptionally beautiful by thinning it out appropriately.
As it is a fern, it can also propagate by spores.
In nature, it appears to shed its leaves and enter a dormant state in autumn, so please maintain the water temperature so it doesn't get too cold.

It grows many thin, fine roots, which become a habitat for microorganisms and help stabilize water quality.
It is also ideal as a spawning substrate and hiding place for medaka fry.
Microorganisms also serve as food for fry, increasing survival rates.
