Kiyomizu-yaki "Zuishun" Tea Cups (Set of 2)
Thank you for viewing.
This is a set of two Kiyomizu-yaki Zuishun tea cups.
The Zuishun teacups are produced by a kiln in Kyoto, a traditional craft of Kyoto ware/Kiyomizu ware.
Craftsmen meticulously hand-paint each piece, and they are popular as elegant tea cups adorned with auspicious patterns and traditional motifs.
While I wish I could convey it through photos, these teacups have a wonderful vibrant green color and a beautiful sheen.

[What is Kiyomizu-yaki?]
Kiyomizu-yaki is a traditional pottery produced in Kyoto Prefecture.
It is designated as a traditional craft by the government, and is now widely known as the general term Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki referring to all ceramics fired in Kyoto.
(Overview and History of Kiyomizu-yaki)
?Origin of the name: It originally comes from being fired at kilns along Kiyomizu-zaka and Gojo-zaka, the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
?Difference from Kyo-yaki: In the Edo period, Kyo-yaki referred to the area around the Higashiyama foothills, while ceramics made around Kiyomizu-dera Temple were distinguished as Kiyomizu-yaki. However, they are now used interchangeably.
?Main production areas: Representative areas include the Kiyomizu-yaki Danchi in Higashiyama Ward and Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City, and the Sumiyama district in Uji City.
(Three Major Characteristics)
?No fixed techniques or molds: Because clays and techniques from all over Japan were fused, designs and techniques vary completely from artist to artist and kiln to kiln.
?All handmade: From the mixing of raw materials to shaping and painting, there is a commitment to handcrafting by skilled artisans.
?Gorgeous and highly artistic design: Having been nurtured by the culture of tea ceremony and loved by nobles and temples, many refined and beautiful designs featuring colored glazes and gold leaf can be seen.
